Organic sweet lupins, with their white, kidney-shaped seeds, are a native legume grown in Germany. Their cultivation is particularly sustainable. The hardy plant, which is often grown due to its soil-improving properties, binds a lot of nitrogen with its long roots and therefore requires no fertilisation. Lupins have a slightly nutty taste and are similar in their nutrient composition to soybeans, but contain significantly less fat. They are very high in protein and contain all essential amino acids, making lupin protein particularly valuable. Their high fibre content also makes them a valuable ingredient not only in vegetarian and vegan cuisine. The whole beans are suitable for stews, antipasti, curries or finely seasoned as a bread spread. Crushed as Organic Sweet Lupin Flour, they are also a popular ingredient for Bolognese and burgers. Did you know that not all lupins are edible? Only the sweet lupin is suitable for human consumption. Its wild relatives contain toxic bitter substances, the alkaloids.
